First and foremost the essence of my work directly depends on multiplying my markets by travelling... so that is what I do and have been doing since I was 17. I love it more and more with each new place I come across, and have since taken an avid interest in photography and journal writting to complement my travels.
However, the sun can't shine all the time... I do get lonely and feel a little 'lost' at times. It's hard to stay centered and remember who you really are when you don't have a primary home and/or base. I would bring that fact up sometimes... but a friend's advice made me see things in a whole new light. He told me,"It's not that you don't have a home, you just have a bigger one..." That was real sweet of him. I'll never forget that and now I don't get homesick (I just miss the people) because everywhere is home to me.
Currently I do a cycle in Asia (hopefully I can crossover to the West soon) where I spend about a third of my time in Taipei, another third in Singapore and the rest, in a myriad of places. I list Singapore as my 'hometown' only because I was born there and my family lives there. I have residence in Seattle too (plus I studied in Australia for 3 yrs..) so I guess I can safely say I'm from all over- I come and go... whenever... wherever.
The best thing I like about all the places I've been to is the actual visual environment itself. I love how each place differs or has different qualities to the sky (for my photography). Culture goes hand in hand with this aspect as well. I can't (and won't) say too much about food because eventhough I love food, I hate to eat it, so there won't be too much food-talk unless it's really unusual or superb.
Because I repeatedly end up in the same list of countries, my goal this year (or from now onwards) is to visit as many NEW places as I can afford to -in the professional aspect as well as the financial. |
I play pool too! Yeah I love the game (if you can call it that)... I first learnt to play at 18 in Singapore then moved on to play in Melbourne, whereby I played in 'mixed-doubles' competitions off and on. When I moved back to Singa, I headed a team for a league in 2002. We didn't get very far (cos I still reckon I'm a pretty lousy player) but it made me seriously comtemplate taking up lessons to be trained professionally. Unfortunately, I travel too much to focus on that aspect, so now I play for fun every so often. Am looking forward to attending the World Pool Championships-Mens in Taipei around July. | | |
