Week in Paris = walking and constant activity!

by skib - last update: Jun 10, 2004

My mother and I went to visit my sister, who is studying in Paris over the summer. We left on May 30th and returned to Minneapolis on June 7th. This was probably the most wonderful trip I have ever been on.

We arrived in Paris on May 31st around 2:00pm. We were very tired, but that couldn’t keep us from exploring. We went to our hotel, couldn’t check in yet, so went straight to the Arc d’Trioupmh and the Tour Eiffel. They were both beautiful and got us in the swing of things! The entire week we walked and walked and walked. It seems like all we ate was ham sandwiches, onion soup, and sometimes pizza, so needless to say we lost quite a bit of weight.

The trip was wonderful to go on with my mother, but if I go back I will definitely go with my husband. Paris is a beautiful city and what they say about it being romantic is very true.

General info: the wine is cheaper than soda, people do wear jeans, but they do not wear the Nike type shoes. The blow dryers in the hotels we were at (ours and my sisters) were horrible, so bring your own. Figure out the metro because it can get you anywhere fast and easy. It’s cheap, we got a five day pass for $25 euros and it was totally worth it. We also bought a three day museum pass for $36 euros. It was worth it for us because we only went to museums those days, but if you plan on going to other places, I would only buy day passes at the museums you wish to visit. We figured we saved 4 euros each, not much, and we went to a lot of places! The city is old and beautify and you must explore the neighborhoods. It is my suggestion that you stay off the beaten path as much as possible. You find the wonderful places that way.

Also, have a glass of wine at Chez Francais. The restaurant faces the Eiffel Tower (it’s across the river). You get wine, crackers and olives all for 9.50 euros with a beautiful view. We went when it was getting dark (10:00pm) and enjoyed the sparkeling tower!
