African Sunset, you're my destiny

by bosveldkoning - last update: Apr 15, 2008

About my Heritage

African Sunset
I am 24 years of age. A young, vibrant, energetic individual seeking to get all I possibly can out of life. I am a dreamer at heart and believe in dreaming big and reaching for the stars. Shining my light upon this world.

I'm a catalyst and an adventurer at heart. There are no problems, only solutions. It excites me to find solutions to problems... in any field. My mind is always filled with ideas. Then the fun part is the process that leads to the implementation of these ideas. I LOVE business and I'm a total MyGenius Junkee!!! LoL.. Love the concept, love the community, absolutely have a passion for it....
I believe that you only live once ,and that should be more than enough motivation, not to waste it. I also believe in making your own success.

What makes a 24 year old South African woman decide to go cycling around the African continent with her drum?

The motivation behind the decision of my taking on this epic journey in my life, came about as a result of losing what was dearest to me. The one person I loved more than life itself. The darkest hour of my life turned out to bring about a turning point in my journey.

I found myself wrapped in questions like: Who am I? Where am I going? Who do I want to be? What do I want out of life? What is my unique contribution in this life?

And as we all do…I’ve been riding my rollercoaster in search of answers. And then I found my core.

I want to experience all of life. I want to learn and grow as a student of Africa. I want to call on the beat of Africa to learn through her people’s songs. Their rhythm and their own beat of life.

We have become quite accustomed to seeing Africa’s dark side. But in that darkness, there is light. It just needs an opportunity to shine.

Now, what if the focus is rather on learning than teaching? What if it is about sharing rather than helping? What if we just allow ourselves to listen and hear the beat of Africa and her people? To share in each others’ heartsongs? Each others’ rhythm, dreams, genius and magic?

I am writing my own heartsong, the scriptures of my journey here and now put into song. But it is a song far from done.

I am a scholar of Africa, and call upon her beat.

My heartsong is cycling around the African continent as one of her people, taking my drum with me and calling upon my African brothers and sisters to learn from their beat. We have so much to learn from one another. I want to do a documentary on African and her people, focusing on all that is beautiful and positive. The people , the places, the cultures, the music.

Starting September 2008 I will be circumnavigating the African continent on my bicycle. Starting in the Cape of Good Hope and ending there again in March 2010.

Don't you worry at all, when you arrive for your R&R in Arad there will be as much of the red stuff (read wine) as you require. ^O^ Martin
