Made up of several 18th century merchant houses, a paper factory and a 19th century vicarage, integrated with modern architecture - the Radisson SAS Hotel is a pleasant place to base yourself when visiting Amsterdam.
I have to admit, I was expecting to get a more historical feel to this hotel having read about it's past life - but apart from the high ceilings in the guest rooms, there really is no evidence or feel of the former use of the original buildings! The modern glass atrium as you enter really is quite impressive to see though!
Unique Qualities: It's close to everything & just a 10 minute stroll to Central Station, and it has all the amenities you would expect from a 5* hotel.
We were situated in the building across the road - accessed by an underground link. I was dubious when I was first told this and had a vision of a damp gloomy warren of tunnels to negotiate - but my doubts were unfounded - it was quite the opposite!! Our room was just a short walk to the lifts, reception and main entrance.
There is a gym in this hotel, but I didn't get to look at it! There is also a Restaurant that has a strong emphasis on asparagus! From what I could see of the menu - it was considerably expensive - and asparagus seem to be used in nearly every meal choice - even the deserts...different!!!
