Getting TO/AROUND: Upon landing at Marco Polo airport we had a few choices of how to get to the hotel.
A water taxi direct to hotel - expensive and about 80 euros
Alilaguna ferry from the airport to san marks square, about 10 euros and a round about trip of upto 1 hour.
The direct ATVO coach (under coach luggage storage) at about 3e single direct to Piazzale Roma.
or the option we took was the local bus run by ACTV the same company that runs the waterbuses in venice ie the Vaporettos.
The bus you need is the orange bus, route 5, which takes you to Piazzale Roma making a few stops enroute. This took about 25 minutes to get to venice.
When you come out of the airport the stop is slightly to the left and located on the second roadway.
We bought the 3 day pass costing 22 euros. This can be used on this bus and then the Vaporettos. During the 72 hours from its first stamping (stamped on the bus, or at machine at vaporetto landing ramp) we were well over the 22 euro point each.
Grand canal ticket is 5e each so the 72 hour pass is excellent value.
There is also a 24 hour pass at 10.50 euros.
Piazzale Roma is the main bus station and also has Car parks as no cars beyond this point. From here you get the Number 1 Vaporreto (slow one calling at nearly all landing points) or the number 82 (fast one only stopping at certain points)
We got the 82 stopping at the Rialto bridge after a few minutes.
In general the waterbuses are very easy to use, as was the ATCV bus 5 to the airport.
