Santiago is the place for skiing and wines

by danielcv - last update: May 21, 2004

Santiago is an european city in the andes

If you go to Santiago the first thing you will notice is the lack of stereotypes. The place is not an exotic latin american city, there is no tropical jungle and the population is well educated. Santiago ressembles european capitals by its architecture and mediterranean climate.

Wines: Santiago is the place to be

You will find dozens of wineries in the Santiago region, dont miss Concha Y Toro.

Wines are really cheap there and even the taxi drivers drink it.

Pros:"Nice city, nice climate, great wines and landscapes"
Cons:"Due to economic boom Santiago is becoming an expensive city"
In A Nutshell:"Go to Santiago for skiing and touring the wineries. Dont expect busy nighlife, though."

Lapizlazuli it is not extint, but it is very scarse, mines exists only in Afganistan and one (1) in Chile. Everywhere in the world it is better to avoid shops recommended by local tour operators (the also profit from it).

I have always really liked wines from Chile, as you say they are a good buy, but do the taxi drivers drink them while they are driving? E
