Krusevo is a little town nestled in the mountains overlooking the Pelagonija Plain.
Its called Bird nest as well , as its "handing" from the slopes of the mountain.

On St Ilijah day (Agust the 2nd) 1903 , the Macedonians living in this little town together with it nighbours from the sarounding vilages, regardless of their fate & religion,have risen against the Ottomans and at midnighte proclamed the Independent Krushevo Republic
The Ottomans couldn't belive what happend, that small Nation in the hart of the Empire, had audacity to stand up and say "No more salevory and tirany We are independent!"
The significant thing about the Uprising is that many ordinary Turkish and Vlah families of the neighbouring villages joing the struggle.
Wich was unheard off.

Nikola Karev become the first president of the Independent Krushevo Republic.
Altought it survived only for 2 weeks it was signivicant Victory and gave the Macedonians hope that one day soon, will be free and independant.
The Porte, angry of what happend, brought 10.000 solders from Tessaloniki, and 20 cannons.

They bombarded the little town mercesly.
The biggest battle for Krushevo was fought at "Mechkin kamen" (Bears Rock) where all the Macedonian troups were killed.
The leader Pitu Guli was last to die, preffering to kill himself than fall into the Ottoman hands.

Over 2000 fighters and many of the inhabitants died at the battle.
But the flame lit by the Revoulutionaris of the Krushevo Republic still brightly shine over the Macedonian people.

Krushevo don't just have rich history, Krushevo is also one of the best Ski centers Macedonia has to offers, and hiking heaven in summer.

Also is a birth place of Todor "Toshe" Proeski, Macedonian Pop singer and filantropist, UNESCO's Good Will Ambasador.

For a such a small place , Krushevo has lots to see and do
