Getting there | Boca river and water taxis (pangas) |
From Puerto Vallarta, you take the bus marked "BOCA". The ride should only cost a couple of dollars, and lasts about 1/2 hour with all the stops. It's a beautiful coastal ride, and you will see Los Arcos, a natural rock formation that towers above a federal underwater park that is protected for snorkeling: http://z.about.com/d/studenttravel/1/0/s/K/los-arcos.jpg
You will also pass Mismaloya, the site where Night of the Iguana with Liz Taylor was filmed. |
| Boca river and fishing boats |
| | Boca de Tomatlan Boca, or mouth, is where the river of Tomatlan flows into the Banderas Bay. Located only about 10 miles south of Puerto Vallarta, this small fishing village's economy relies on tourism and the local catch. It is mainly a jumping off point for exploration of the surrounding beaches and alcoves. Although there are no hotels here, there are a few restaurants and produce markets. The town is simple with only a couple of short roads they call their neighborhood. The main attraction for most who visit Boca, are the nearby beaches, only accessible by boat (panga, the water taxi). |
