"Yelapa" Yelapa by rkearns

Yelapa was my favorite secluded beach around Puerto Vallarta. I only remember it being a short 20 minute boat ride from Boca de Tomatlan, but the books say 45 minutes.

Believe me, you will feel like you just stepped onto a resort after coming from Boca, which is quite simple and a bit muddy from the rain. Yelapa's C-shaped, shallow, warm-watered beach sits at the tropical forest's edge, and offers uninterrupted relaxation and all day food and drink service. You can pull up a sun chair or relax under an umbrella in one of the palapa restaurants right there on the beach. If you want to explore the small town of Yelapa, there is a trail that runs up the hill, through the houses and narrow stone roads, and back down to the water. You can visit a few waterfalls, and there are horseback tours that take you even further into the forest if you don't want to go on foot. Bring insect repellent! There are many accommodations in Yelapa, ranging from uber-cheap (small room usually in someone's home) to in-style, with AC, TV and warm water shower. But who needs all that? I was content with my room, and I stayed there for three days. (See accommodation tips)
