Some of the gems of Mexico's pacific coast are it's big surf, 100% agave tequila, fresh oysters, sunsets and friendly people. I had some of the best days in my life here. I went on boat excursions, saw sea turtles mating on the surface of the ocean, went tequila tasting, and welcomed some local surfers into my heart and memory. I have to say that my enthusiasm for the people and beauty of Mexico was muted a bit with the most disappointing occurrence......trash and pollution. Some of the most popular beach destinations (Zihuatanejo) are polluted with dirty diapers, bottles, bags and cups. I felt as if the people had no respect for the land, and took no pride in their country. Regardless, I sucked it up, looked beyond the clutter, and was able to have a great time with warm friendships, cold beer, and boundless curiosity! |
