Ha Long Bay was designated Unesco World Heritage site in 1994. You'll know why when you see the emerald waters and the islands! Cat Ba island is the largest of them; altogether, there are 366 islets and islands in Cat Ba archipelago and over 3000 around Ha Long! Book a cruise, visit the national park, or relax on the beaches - I loved the place!

Cat Ba has a few fishing villages. Majority of the island's fishing fleet disappeared abroad in the 70's and 80's, when the 'boat people' left Vietnam.

Great Stuff! Any advice for kayaking in Ha Long Bay? Will be in Danang on humanitarian medical team and thought I might do a bit of kayaking afterward. So many travel ads in internet...gets confusing. Thanks, Steve Scott Punta Gorda, Florida USA
