the "kulets"
A beautiful stretch of road with mahogany trees at both sides. This is a man-made forest, which is a project of the local government to save the water basin of town.
Your tour guide will make a stop here for you to have that nice photos.
So many people go here to have their photos taken. You're lucky to have a decent one (without other tourists blocking your face!). A good option is to buy photos from the locals...with only their mobile phones, they are good in taking beautiful pictures. Once you arrive in Baclayon Church, you'll be surprised to be offered your precious photos.
P25 to P35 a piece...price is always negotiable :0)
entrance
We had an enjoyable and leisure visit to this museum.
First, cameras and videos are allowed...I like that!
Second, the lady at the front desk gave us an informal tour.
The museum boasts several well-preserved religious artifacts like vestments from 1863!!!, metal and wooden chests (which I love so much I want to take it home), altar pieces, organs, etc. The hall which served as the old "kumbento" has beautiful paintings but sadly needs careful restoration.
Note: We paid a minimal fee of P15.00 to get inside.

another big church
St. Peter the Apostle Parish.
This said to be the second oldest church in Bohol next to Baclayon Church. It was built by a Jesuit priest who fled Baclayon when the Moros raid the town in 1600.
Brief History:
(taken from the museum ticket)
1602 - The Jesuits headed by Fr. Juan de Torres established the Loboc Parish, the oldest Parish in Bohol. Stone Church built.
(Confusing isn't it? Didn't the lady from Baclayon told us that theirs is the oldest church in the province? hmmmm)
1604 - Founded Seminario-Colegio or boarding school for boys.
1638 - Stone church was destroyed by fire.
1670 - Church was rebuilt.
1734 - Bigger church was built beside the older structure.
1768 - Jesuits were expelled and Augustinian Recollects took over. They added the belltower, portico, facade, funeral chapel and butresses. Also converted the old Jesuit-built Church.
Seeing the photos again, I can't seem to make up my mind as to which church is my favorite in Bohol :oP

the boat
The Loboc river cruise is an enjoyable activity when in Bohol. You may arrange this tour with your driver or any hotel frontdesk as this is popular among local and foreign tourists. You may opt for a plain cruise or the one with buffet lunch.
One will get the feel of provincial life when taking this tour. The river is wide and teeming with local activities. For entertainment purposes, the boat will stop once or twice to a makeshift stage beside the river where the passengers get to see a live performance of folk songs and dances from locals. It is expected that you give a small donation or tip for this. I enjoyed this one so much and made a recording...will post the video soon.
There's also a singer on-board. My father loved his antics so much and requested so many Kundiman songs and the singer obliged gamely to the delight of the other passengers.
Note: Our tour cost P280.00 per person..it includes buffet lunch. The tour is highly recommended but our lunch is not so good.

the hills are so alive
Chocolate Hills is so different from anything I've seen...truly awe-inspiring. I only felt the same way twice before, first when I saw the Banawe Rice Terraces and second the Mayon Volcano.
It is declared as a National Geological Monument in June 18, 1988.
Don't miss this when in Bohol!
Note: P10.00 fee is collected at the park entrance.
Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.
Oldest church in Bohol and one of the oldest in the whole Philippines. It was built sometime in 1595 or 1596 by the Spanish missionaries.
It has museum where you can see very old images of saints and other religious artifacts. You will be asked to pay a minimal fee. Cameras and videos not allowed inside.
Please wear appropriate cloths when entering places of worship (see photo #2).

hungry? afraid?
Highly endangered...this adorable creatures are a must-see when in Bohol.
There are few DENR-regulated places for captive tarsiers where you can see them up close. Visitors must refrain from making too much noise and using camera flash when inside those places. And please please...watch your little ones to avoid untoward incidents. Our guide told us that tarsiers commit suiside when stressed-out.

facade
Full of rustic charm...this church is my favorite in Bohol. I'm not sure if this is part of the UNESCO Heritage Site (let me check).
The interior is quite gloomy but the beautifully painted ceiling took my breath away. This church is in great need of TLC.
Also, this is one of the biggest churches i've seen...I was unable to capture the whole structure with my camera!
