Sta. Monica Church, Belfry, Rectory and Ruins

Another beautiful church in Ilocos Norte, Sta. Monica Church was built in 1769 and completed ten years after. It is built in neo-classical style using red bricks.

It is the biggest church in the Ilocos Region and it is witness to one of the grandest weddings ever...who else but the daughter of the late President (dictator) Ferdinand Marcos!

The Malacanang of the North

This is the house of the Marcoses in Ilocos Norte. It is grand, made in resemblance of the 19th century "bahay na bato". From the second floor, one would have a beautiful view of the tranquil Paoay Lake.

Today it is converted into a museum. It houses the paintings and other memorabilias of the Marcoses.

Eventhough the structure is big and the view is great, this place is nothing special...not even well-maintained. I had bad vibes of this place especially inside the old dictator's bedroom. (shivers!)

Would be a nice sidetrip if you have plenty of time...if not...stick to the churches and great beaches of Pagudpud.

Paoay Church

A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Paoay Church was built in 1704 and completed in 1894. It is beautifully constructed using coral stones and stucco-plastered bricks. It is well maintained and looks very old with the growing vegetations and moss covering its sturdy walls.

Definitely one of the most beautiful churches in the Philippines...a must-see!

Cape Bojeador Lighthouse

Cape Bojeador Lighthouse is a very prominent attraction in Ilocos Norte. It is built in 1812 on a headland facing South China Sea. It is considered as the tallest lighthouse in Asia.

According to the old caretaker, the lighthouse was originally used to warn people of pirates. The lighthouse is still in use today for sending signals for incoming and outgoing ships.

From here you'll have a great view of the coast...very beautiful.

The Leaning Belfry of St. Andrew Church

Famously known as the "Bowing Acrobatic Tower of Southeast Asia".

Due to numerous earthquakes that hit the place, the bell tower is now half ruined.
