Being a Catholic and a first time traveller abroad, I haven't had much opportunity to visit other temples or places of worship. The Buddha image in Wat Traimitr is very impressive. According to our guide, this one is made up of pure gold. It has always been believed to be made up of cement and the real treasure was only discovered incidentally while transferring the Buddha from its former location. Very nice experience but I think the whole tourism stuff is making this place less serene than it ought to be. Note: This is from my first Bangkok trip in March 2004. Part of our packaged City Tour.

Definitely one of the most interesting temples in Bangkok. Wat Po houses the biggest indoor reclining Buddha in Thailand. The image is very impressive with its size...almost taking up the whole space of the building. Due to its size and the many visitors, I found it very difficult to get a nice picture of the whole image with my own camera. A good alternative would be buying some postcards at the shop. If you are going to visit the place on your own, Wat Po is open daily from 08:00am to 5:00pm. And has an entrance fee of 20 baht. Note: This is from my first Bangkok trip in March 2004. For me and my mother, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha together with the Grand Palace is the grandest of all the attractions in Bangkok. It is truly a sight to see. The whole compound houses brightly colored buildings and glittering (golden) mosaics dating back to hundreds of years. So many visitors flock the place to it is wise to get here early...as soon as the gates open. Viewing time is from 8:30AM to 3:30PM with entrance fee of 200B. As this is one of Thailands most sacred temple, please act with due respect. No picture-taking inside. Also, Shorts and sandals are not allowed. Note: This is from my first Bangkok trip in March 2004.

Do your own walk-tour...it is enjoyable! China Town is a charming place full of little shops offering different kinds of goodies….mass-produced fashion accessories, clothes, gold jewelries. The wet market is heaven for those who love to cook….fresh sea foods, different spices, mushrooms, crackers, etc. I got lost here several times and have to ask people to find my way out. Do not worry, people here are friendly. Looks intimidating at times but it's all part of the fun!

Do your own walk-tour...it's enjoyable! After you have passed the China Town, you will feel as if you are in a totally different place. Little India is colorful. I love her Sari shops and those exotic spice shops. As part of the experience, I went to the Sihk Temple…said to be the biggest one outside India. Upon entering, I was advised to remove my shoes...as sign of respect similar to any place of worship. The place is very regal and made mostly of white marble. It has several floors. At the ground floor, there are several rooms covered with curtains. I did not venture out much even though I am very (very very) curious on how they practice their faith. I was feeling a bit out of place. Aside from the security guard, I think I am the only SE Asian inside the building. Outside the temple, I saw a lot of beautiful Indian women. Indians fascinate me because they have lovely prominent features...beautiful dark skin, deep set eyes and high bridged-nose. Also had my first taste of Indian food here.
