Ancona Things to Do Tips by Calcio

Well… big games in the 4th division isn’t that common, but as for Fiorentina two seasons ago it could be nice to see a club in a division that low, that still has a big crowd. Specially at the end of the season, if Ancona are close to go up to Serie C1 there could be a really good atmosphere.

Ancona-supporters

The Ancona-supporters are being known as colourful and passionate for their team. Biggest rival should be Ascoli.
In the middle of their rather unsuccessful season in Serie A 03/04 their biggest ultra-group “Colletivo” vanished. A new group was soon after formed, but so far hasn’t reached the status that Colletivo had. Other big groups are “Vecchio Guardia”.
The homesupporters stands in the Curva Nord, while the away-supporters stands in the Curva Sud. Both stands takes 2500 spectators.

The Ancona-stadium

I’ve already been written a lot of negative things about Stadio Del Conero before, but I must also say that while you’re there it’s a nice stadium. A total capacity of 25 000 spectators, most of them in the curves or the sections closest to them.
Ticket-prices are reasonable, but make sure to go there by car, or you risk to never see a city again… There is actually another train-station just a couple of kilometers away from the stadium, but in Ancona they have never heard about evening-games, or evening-trains… So don’t count on the hope that there will be a train leaving that stadium after the game, not even to take you back to Ancona-center…

Ancona Calcio

Ancona Calcio was formed in 1905, but played in lower and regional division all the time until 1992/93 when they had their first touch of Serie A.
Unfortunately just one season there, and then back to Serie B again, which seems to be their melody.
2002/03 they again grabbed a spot for the Serie A, celebrating their new life with a 0-2 loss against future champions Milan in their first league-game.
Much more fun than that it never became, and Ancona got relegated back in B, winning their first game of the season record-late if I don’t remember wrong.
To make things even worse the spending during that season, and seasons before, made the club bankrupt, and during the summer 2004 the club was forced down to Serie C2, the 4th division, where they had to start all over again. New club, new board, new players. And back to the place where no one outside Ancona gives a sh… about the club.
Good for me, because then I never need to go back to their outside-the-world-stadium again, but the supporters of Ancona doesn’t seem to care. They are cheering on their team this season, with a passion stronger than ever before. And who knows, in the future we might see Ancona in the first divisions again?
