The famous harbor city Genoa is also the home for two of Italy’s most classic clubs. Sampdoria and Genoa. The 800 000 inhabitants are divided in two sets of supporters for the both teams. The city of Christoffer Columbus has won 10 scudetti, league-titles in Italy (9 for Genoa, although the last one as early as 1923/24, 1 for Sampdoria 1990/91). The stadium, Stadio Luigi Ferrari, is one of the tightest stadiums in Italy, where the atmosphere is crawling around the stadium, from every angle of every sector. Sampdoria is now a stabile Serie A-club, while Genoa has struggled in Serie B the last 10 years (were actually relegated to Serie C1 two years ago, but was later re-installed in Serie B). Maybe this season is the moment to get back to Serie A though.
The whole west-coast area around Genoa is extremely beautiful. And so is Genoa. Some may say it’s a bit shady, but I really like this town. So make sure you get some time for sightseeing too while visiting a game here! |
