Ho Chi Minh City: Land of the Motorbike

by Anarae - last update: Apr 16, 2005

Ho Chi Minh City (often still referred to as Saigon) is the most likely point of entry into Vietnam. For me it was a massive culture shock, but by the end of our time I wanted to stay longer!
HCMC is a modern city, but nothing like a city from home. It's an amazing blend of ancient pagodas and dull offfice blocks, rundown apartments and five star hotels, with a constant parade of maniacal motorcyclists running through the middle! You could spend hours just wandering and watching.

You are so right. It is a city of motorbikes. Motrocyclists are to Saigon as pedestrians are to Shangai: everywhere.
