Damascus, Damascus...

by siaki68 - last update: Apr 28, 2006

"I have come to you . . .
From the history of the Damascene rose
That condenses the history of perfume . . .
From the memory of al-Mutanabbi
That condenses the history of poetry . . .
I have come to you . . .
From the blossoms of bitter orange . . .
And the dahlia . . .
And the narcissus . . ."

It's a fair point, but then I wouldn't advise a blanket refusal on all offers of tea from merchants. Choose a lesser populated, less touristy area, and then by all means accept the (usually very genuine) Syrian hospitality and have tea with a trader.

I'd like to say that this place sells great stuff, at reasonable prices, and they can reliably ship to you anywhere! well done gentlemen!
