Peschiera is a small quiet town located in the south east of Lake Garda. Lago di Garda as Italians say – is the largest lake in Italy, located in the north of Italy between Venice and Milan. It is also surrounded by many pretty towns like Saló, Sirmione, Lazise and Verona. You should plan spend at least a day in each town and easy access to bus and car rentals makes this easier. You will also find a selection of good quality restaurants that offers mostly tasty Italian food in every town. It was not a cheap holiday but very relaxing and romantic. Ideal for people who seek walks, water sports and tasty food and wines etc……
Language is obviously Italian and I believe locals appreciated if you try at least to say few things in their beautiful language or try to read the menu. Younger generation spoke English without any hesitation.
Few notes :-
•Monday market is quite interesting. You can just buy everything. Home made jams to fake designer labels. It is a very colourful & noisy place. There are plenty of Bars and restaurants in the centre of town.
• I have to mention vengoli (spaghetti with clams) is very tasty at Pizzeria Bounty. Our friends who had been to this town few times mentioned that it’s the best. Friendly staff and nice to sit outside by the lake and feed the ducks. We were offered Limoncello on the house. It’s a good digestive and has a high alcohol percentage.
•I could not find a single internet café. People seemed so relaxed and laid back. Why bother and complicate our lives with WWW. Therefore I had no access to my almost 10 year old hotmail account.
•A day trip to Venice should be ok but we have not had the time.
•A day trip to Verona was great.
•A boat ride would be interesting but costly.
•Peschiera town was invaded by German and Dutch folk. We were the only from Belgium.
•We did not spot a single discotheque or a night club although some restaurants had live bands.
•Please buy a bottle or two of Italian Balsamic Vinegar. This does wonders with any type of salad or for cooking and marinating meat.
•Italy is also the place for shoes or hang-bags. For a give away prices during sales.
•Shops are closed between 1 and 4pm but open until 7pm or so.
Town you must visit - Sirimione – is a little pretty village located on the southern edge of Lake Garda. It is quite touristy and full of bright coloured buildings. The old town is behind the bridge and its castle and you will be entering a different world. This place is full of cafés, shops and restaurants. You will also notice plenty of gelato stands. You can walk around the whole day and every corner it is another breath taking view. |
