Aida, Okayama, JAPAN!!!!!!

Welcome to my home. This is where I live in the small village of Aida in Okayama prefecture in Japan. I have been teaching here for the past year on the JET programme. It`s a small village even by Japanese standards. It`s home to only 3700 & one foreigner ......me. It`s cool though as I don`t feel like an outsider, everyones really friendly & they all like to look after me.

My neighbourhood

Japan is definatley not all skyscapers and karaoke halls. Although I have often moaned about living the middle in middle of nowhere (placements on the programme are pretty much random) it is amazing to see a side of Japan that most toursits never do.

Many of my students live up here, and around the mountains. I haven`t spent as much time hiking around here as I should, maybe soon.

This is an evening view over the mountains of Aida. Japan is really mountainous. All the villages follow the valleys of the land. It`s pretty amazing to see a sea of mountain tops.

The Japanese love their rice!

S$#T! I`ve lost my shoe!!!

This photo was taken just outside my apartment. Nearly everyone in the village has their own rice paddy, which is often cared for by the grandparents of the family. It was cool to walk around and chat to everyone as they planted their rice. With my friends in Aida, it mean I never have to buy rice.

This temple is right by my apartment. It^s one of Aida`s most famous sites.
