Never Again and other New York City, NY Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

Stayed in this hotel after booking the whole holiday package through a British company. The hotel was supposed to have been updated, and that may well have been true. I just can't put a date on when it happened. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone.Rooms were tidy, but didn't trust the carpets had ever been cleaned. Bathroom dingy.

Unique Qualities: None. Good for getting to the Empire State Building

Second visit, we took advice of a local travel agent(we didn't know about tripadvisor.com!), and booked into the Pennsylvania. Cripes, it was just the same as the New Yorker! Again, not recommended.

Unique Qualities: Goodish location, but wouldn't want to be in that area again.

3rd Time Lucky? We got a good deal with our holiday booking and decided to go upmarket..or so we thought. Common areas of the hotel are very old money and classy. Our room was tucked away in a corner, terrible view, and hadn't been updated for some years. The housekeeping staff were very nice, but the room certainly wasn't what I expected.

Unique Qualities: Great common areas. Not much to do around on an evening.Next visit we are going to rent an apartment.

Although this is called a B and B, they are actually apartments, in the owners home. We stayed in Appt 5 on the first floor, and it was much better than staying in a hotel. The kitchens are fitted out with fridges, cookers and microwaves. Air conditioning is available in both the living room and separate bedroom. Rooms on other floors have one large room with a bed and living area combined.I would definitely recommend this B and B. In fact, I'm thinking of it again for my next trip.

Unique Qualities: Located on West 81st Street, the best thing about this place is it's location. I've stayed in hotels in Midtown and being in a neighbourhood is so much better. Amsterdam Ave is just along the street with numerous restaurants, and Broadway with Zabars etc is a 5 minute walk away.It's very close to the Museum of Natural History, and 2 subway stations....one on the corner of 81st and Central Park West(B and C), and the other at 79th and Broadway(1,2,3 and 9).Central Park is at the end of the street.
