Sitka Alaska, the most beautiful place on Earth

I was actually born and bred in the South, lived most of my life in Georgia. I am now a Sitkan..at least for a while. I am a critical care registered nurse and have been living in Sitka Alaska since July 2009. I am working for the South Eastern Alaska Regional Health Consortium in their Native American Hospital, ( Mt Edgecumbe ) on Japonski Island in Sitka. I love Alaska and the amazing wildlife and nature found here. It has been a bit of adjustment for me, I have to admit. Sitka is quite isolated and remote to the rest of the world. The only way in or out of Sitka is by commercial airline, by ferry on the Alaska marine Highway, or by float plane.. No roads in or out. The nearest town is Juneau, eight hours on the long ferry or four hours on the so-called fast ferry. It has taken me a while to get accustomed to not being about to travel outside of my town very easily or cheaply.. I have always been on to go and go and go..But.I have found a new way to appreciate life here. The culture is rich, the people awesome, the nature breathtaking and the Sea powerful and filled with riches. Everyone should see Sitka at least once in their life.. It is amazing..

Andy from Australia here. I've friends in Helen and spent time there on a couple of occasions. Nice to see the place profiled. I'm always envious of your lovely town.Octoberfest and that great crab deal at the restaraunt above the Chatahootchee

My hus. and I are from Ormond by the Sea, FL but keep an RV at Unicoi Springs, love the area. we will be there on Aug. 18 for 6 weeks. Can we connect? PS I am also a retired ICU RN joyce
