Beautiful!

A perfect break

We decided we'd like some sun, and a week of just relaxing - Dubrovnik gave us just that. The temperature was in the seventies, and the whole of the city seemed less busy than it normally would be, which was good.

On arriving at Dubrovnik airport, we were straight out of the main entrance, pretty much straight away - not many planes land there, so people were arriving in plane-sized batches, rather than all at once. Supposedly there are shuttle buses from the airport to Dubrovnik, but we couldn't find it. We also had a lot of trouble with one cashpoint - all the others were fine, but as you leave the airport, the one by the Arrivals kept cancelling our transaction - I think other people had this problem. If you walk towards the toilets you'll come to an area where there's more ATM's, for different banks, which worked just fine. The currency exchange doesn't accept cards (handy!!). Anyway, in the end as we couldn't find the bus, we just got a taxi to our hotel.

Dubrovnik itself is small - but there's plenty to do. We found that we didn't get as much done as we wanted, mainly through relaxing by the pool for half of the day, at our hotel!

Vegetarians

I'm veggie. I didn't have problems with eating, though I'm fussy. I don't like mushrooms, and almost every vegetarian dish had mushrooms in it - so for the first few nights I ate pizza- there's plenty of pizza places in Dubrovnik!!

On the last night, on a street parallel to the main stradun, from the back of the monastery, we went to a vegetarian restaurant. The food was AMAZING! Go there! I will do a seperate review of it, but the place did the most amazing food. The whole experience was great - though in the next restaurant along, some local drunk man was spluttering about the bad quality of his food, and making a bit of a fool of himself - once he'd gone, the meal was extremely pleasant.

Travel

Our hotel was out on Babin Kuk, so was a 15 minute bus journey to the main Pile Gate - one of the main entrances to the old town. Very convenient, lots of buses, and there wasn't much traffic on the roads - apparently it gets worse in high season, but in October it was just fine!
