The best way to get to know Toronto is to explore the downtown area on foot. Most of the attractions in Toronto are concentrated in this area and they are relatively close together. Of course you can buy a daypass and go around downtown by taking street cars too. Toronto downtown has a mix of old and new architectures. There are many modern skyscappers that are belong to big banks, insurance companies, telecom companies etc. However you may also find many historical buildings, such as churches, hotels, theaters... Walk around and you will definitely find something that would interest you.

If you are looking for some fun, head to the waterfront. Here you have too many options: head up to CN tower, watch a Blue Jays game at Skydome, watch a Leafs or Raptor game, go to Ontario Place, or take a boat cruise around the harbor. If you are visiting Toronto at the right time of a year, you can also go to the Canadian National Exhibition.

No visitor to Toronto can resist not going up the CN Tower, which is one of the famous wonders of Canada. Although it was built almost 30 years ago, it still holds the title of the world's tallest free standing structure. With a height of 553.33m it is 44 meters higher than Taipei 101.

The two curved buildings of City Hall are the most unique among all buildings at downtown Toronto area. In front of it is the spacious Nathan Phillip Square, which is often used to host many public events, such as the annual New Year Eve countdown party. In winter, the pool is transformed into an ice skating rink. While you are there, don't miss the opportunity to go inside and have a tour of this amazing building.

University of Toronto is the oldest and the biggest university in Toronto. Its campus (one of its three campuses) is located in downtown Toronto, near the Queen's Park provincial legislative building. Founded in 1827, this university has a rich history and you should learn about it by taking a walk through its campus and taking a look at some of the historic buildings there.

If you are into a museum visit, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) would be your first choice. The museum has a huge collection of objects (5 millions) about natural history and human cultures. Whether you are interested to see nature wonders, like dinosaur bones, or you would like to see some artifacts from ancient worlds, you won't be disappointed there. Note that the museum is under some major renovation currently so part of the museum is not open. The museum is located in downtown Toronto, next to the University of Toronto campus. It is open seven days a week, and the admission price is $10. And on Friday nights, it is free!

Ontario Place is an amusement park on the waterfront. I think the attractions here are mostly for kids. If you are seeking real thrill rides, I would recommend you to go to Paramount Wonderland instread. The sphere in the photo is the Cinesphere, which is the first IMAX theater in the world. It got a huge screen 80 feet by 60 feet.
