The Pont du Gard is a World heritage site. It's an aqueduct built by the Romans to carry water from Uzes to Nimes. It took 50,000 tones of stone to and over 1,000 men to build this 48 metres high Aqueduct. Work started on it in AD 38 and was completed in AD 52 |
| | The site has recently been re developed to include a Mediterranean garden. You can walk across the bridge, if you do make sure you spend some time to read the early graffiti. |
The site is free to visit. Those with a mobility problem will find wheelchair hire at the Information office.
The start of the walk, which is flat to the Aqueduct, but, the gardens there is a slight hill. There is a small museum, cafe, toilets and Information at the entrance close to the car park. | | |
