This place has everything. The Carrefour inside the mall is the best and largest grocery store in the city. The mall has four levels with an ice skating rink, a bowling alley, a water park, and an amusement park with roller coasters. This place has everything you could possibly need.

The souqs: Shopping in the souqs!

Name of Shop: The souqs
Doha has many different kinds of shops, but the souqs are the most enjoyable to shop at. There are different sections of the souq that specialize in certain goods. I always go to the gold souqs before going home so I can have nice presents for my friends. There are also pearl souqs for those who want a little piece of Arabia to take home with them. There are many different kinds of shops, so it is best to walk and explore.
What To Buy: Gold, pearls, you name it!
What To Pay: Always, always haggle. The price on the item is just a starting point for negotiations. Don't be rude about it, just be persuasive.

Hyatt mall: The other Mall

Name of Shop: Hyatt mall
This is the other mall in Doha. This one is a spartan one floor compared to the behemoth four story Carrefour mall. The Hyatt mall is actually a decent place to shop. The place has a grocery store (Giant Stores I think) that has a bakery, fresh produce and a butcher. They also have a lot of home goods, electronics, pretty much everything. Within the mall are some fine jewelry stores (skip 'em and go to the souqs), a decent food court, and the typical mall fare (electronics shops, clothing stores, photo stores, etc.) This is a good place to head if you live pretty far from the Corniche as you don't have to go so far into town to get your shopping done.
What To Buy: The bakery has some outstanding local treats as well as a good variety of international food. They also have a great section for fresh nuts, beans, and grains.
What To Pay: Not too exorbatant. Pretty reasonable prices as far as I could tell.

Directions: Get on the D ring road heading away from the Corniche and look for the huge green shopping cart (I'm not kidding).

Taxis are hard to find in Qatar. Karwa is the only taxi service. Taxis are very, very hard to find in Doha. Most people use private drivers who look for people hunting taxis. If you are lucky enough to have seen a Karwa taxi, they are GREEN, not Orange | mohan-arun Tue Jan 17, 2006 08:26 UTC
this must be a joke. You cannot survive without a car (own or rented). The taxis dont stop and pick u up even if you frantically wave at them, and you are at their mercy whether they will even accept you for a ride - most of them dont ply short distances, | colin_bramso Sat Nov 20, 2004 07:14 UTC
