London Transportation

Buses: Buses Around London
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: Taking a bus in London is the cheapest, but not the quickest or most reliable way to get around. In central London buses everywhere, but be warned, the traffic is bad and the buses take forever to get to their destinations. Outside central London buses are still everywhere, but there is less traffic so the routes are faster. If you are on a budget, or you want to take in London at a slower pace, a bus is for you!

    Taxis: Black Cabs
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Other
Getting TO/AROUND: Blacks cabs are an institution in London, it seems like they've been here forever! They are quite an expensive way to get around, and watching your money disappear on a screen in front of you as your fare builds up is not a pleasant experience. But they are comfortable and you can enjoy some friendly banter with your local driver. You can pick them up EVERYWHERE in central London, but they are a little rarer in the outskirts. If you're on a budget a black cab is not for you, but if you've got the cash to splash, or you're a little lost, just jump in.

    The tube: The Tube
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Subway/Metro
Getting TO/AROUND: Ok, the tube. Without a doubt the quickest and most efficient way to get around central London, at a reasonable price. HOWEVER, they are notoriously unreliable and can be crammed and uncomfortable, especially in summer when you'll come out smelling like stig of the dump. The tube operates mainly underground, around central London, but you can also catch the tube overground to a few London destinations.

    Trains: Trains
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': TO,AROUND
    Category: Train
Getting TO/AROUND: You can catch trains around, or into, London. Trains are generally comfortable and fast, but can be unreliable and are usually late. You can catch a train into central London from nearly everywhere in London and the UK. The main drawback of using the train is they are quite expensive, especially if you are travelling a fairly long distance. If you plan to make a few journeys you can get daily, weekly or monthly travelcards, which offer a substantial discount.

Docklands Light Railway (DLR): The DLR
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Subway/Metro
Getting TO/AROUND: DLR stands for Docklands Light Railway. It is basically a modern version of the tube, which runs between south london and east london. It is a unique experience, as it doesn't even have a driver, just a conductor who checks your ticket.

Walking in London: Walking In London
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Other
Getting TO/AROUND: The most convenient way to get around London, and see the sights at your own pace, is to walk. The roads are often so congested that it can be quicker to walk than to drive or take a bus. This is especially true of central London, where a bus may not even move for ages. However, the streets of London are also very, very busy, so walking can be a stressful experience.
