  • ... has to be Piazza San Marco and the area around it.
As soon as I got of the train from Milan I started to follow the signs that was all over the place. Even for me, who sometimes have trouble to find the way out of my house, it was easy to find the Piazza San Marco.

After around half an hour I was there, and the piazza is really amazing. Although I don't know if there were more people or pigdeons... If you're afraid of any of them - go somewhere else...

But it was nice to go around the piazza for a while, before I decided to go closer to the water instead - less people and more relaxing area.

The problem then was to find the way back to the trainstation... But that's another story...

Piazza San Marco & Campanile (and views): The second thing to see...

  • Venice Piazza San Marco & Campanile (and views)

  • ... in Venice is the campanile di San Marco. The tower, 96,8 meters high, was inizially built during the 800 secolo. 1912 it was rebuilt as it is today.

More important might be the amazing view you get from the top. The elevator cost 6 euro, but it's definately worth it, as long as the line isn't too long... I waited for 10 minutes, and that was no problem.

From the top you can see all over Venice, in all four directions. It might be a good idea to buy a "guide-phone" on the ground-floor, to understand more what it is that you're looking for.

However, I decided to save some money, stay without the guide-phone - and I was pleased anyway. It suppose it depends on how much you really want to know, and how sure you are about that you haven't forgot everything in the same minute you go down again...

Amazing view anyway, but make sure to plan the time. Otherwise you might get stuck in the line to get into the elevator... It might be a lot of people up, so don't go up if you're in a hurry.

Basilica di San Marco (exterior only): The third thing you must see in Venice...

  • ... is the Basicila, the huge church at Piazza San Marco.
Although I have to admit I might have done a mistake who didn't went inside...

But a look at the line, with a waiting-time for something like 40-50 minutes (exclusive the time it would have taken to leave my bag at another place at the piazza, since you aren't allowed to bring anything with you inside...), and the great sunny weather I had during the time, I decided to just stay outside instead.

Anyway, the church is great built, although not as the Duomo in Milan or Florenz, and neither like the Petrus Church in Rome.

But I had would liked to get inside, and outside, on the terraces. Sure looked nice up there!

Well, let's hope it will be a next time. And that I that time also now which building that is the Dogdes castle, so that I won't just go past it...

Sometimes I think I would earn something if I studied some maps before I actually went to the town...

  • Venice Gondolas
  • One of the millions gondols
  • by Henrik_rrb
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • The first thing I wanted to see in Venice was one of the famous gondols. So when I after 5 minutes walk from the trainstation saw one I started to take photos like a maniak, afraid that it would be only one I would see during the day.

Well... let's say I didn't have to worry... Venice is full of gondols, so full that you might think that the competition for customers would cut the prices down...

However, it's not like that... From what I heard it costs around 100 euro for a trip. I decided to jump on that and get pleased with my photos instead...

Beautiful photos. Just doing my Venice page now. I know I got lost here too, but I'm thinking you may need a personal GPS (navigation system) ;) it seems to be a habit with you :) (You know I like to tease)
