Two continents in one city

by Henrik_rrb - last update: May 31, 2005

The Blue Mosque
Just one word: WOW! The city of Istanbul is really something special, with two parts of the city that are so different to each other they could be two different continents.

Well, maybe because they are...? The asian and european side of the city are like two worlds, the european a bit more stressed and with more sights.
The asian is calmer, feels smaller (although they are more or less the same size), but can on the other side also be very chaotic when something big happens (see my photos of the celebrations of Fenerbahce...).

I was in the city for almost 5 days, way too short, but definately better than nothing. Got a good view of the city, plus a feeling that I need to come back sooner than later, and see the rest of the city.

A big thanks also to Pamir, Zeynep and Eda for all the guiding in your faboulus city!

Argh...!

The reason I first went to Istanbul was the Champions League-final between Milan and Liverpool. Fantastic first half, the rest I have deleted from my memory...

See my motto for my explanations...

Glad I had such a good time the rest of the days in the city, otherwise Anfield Road and the rest of Liverpool would have been in trouble...

The sights

Istanbul is full of famous sights, one even harder than the other one to pronounce... But they are fantastic, as the Blue Mosque, the Haghia Sofia, Topkapi, the Taksim-square, all football stadiums and more and more and more... Five days were way too little to see everything, but then it's another reason for me to come back again.
