We liked Hilton. It is not our utmost favorite hotel, but as far as chain hotel goes, it stays pretty close to the top of our preferred list. All Hilton hotels are pretty much the same, meaning they are not very charming, but they are courteous, effective, and they don't often make mistakes. This includes Hilton New York.
The last time we stayed at Hilton New York was during a Thanksgiving weekend. The weather was miserable, the city was crowded, and all hotels were filled to the brim. There were several Thanksgiving Parade participating groups that stayed at Hilton, many of them were young people and none of them was easy to deal with. Because of the bad weather, storage rooms were required to store extra gears for the groups. Because of the bad weather, changing rooms needed to stay open all day instead of an hour before and an hour after the parade. Because of the bad weather, hotel personnel had to be ready to take care of the minutest order from individual guests as well as parade participants. In addition, the convention of scientists who stayed there also had many last minute changes. Over the great confusion, the staffs were calm, cool, and collected. They might not be as pleasant as they could under normal circumstance, but they saw to it that everyone's need was taken care of. Maybe it's the New Yorkers trait or maybe just in the Hilton training, the staffs dealt with every crisis with aplomb.
That's why we liked Hilton, especially Hilton New York.

Charles really liked this hotel.
The rooms are all spacious, the amenities range from very comfortable to elegant, the view is great, and the staffs are courteous and helpful while never intruding. Despite being right on Times Square, the noise is barely noticeable especially on the high floors.
Just like all the Renaissance Hotels we have stayed in, this one is a gem. Since Renaissance became part of the Marriott family, the rate has become too high now for our present budget, but it's still comparable with hotels on the same location that offer the same standard of service and the same quality rooms.
