The first time we went to French Polynesia was in 1979, when we were on the way back to California from Fiji and Cook Islands. We made a stop in Moorea, fell in love with the place, and bought one of the first timeshares at Club Bali Hai (at the time was still under the name Hotel Aimeo and owned by a Tahitian character named Charlie). Over the following decades, other members of our family also bought property there. French Polynesia became our home away from home. There were times when we would spend half of a summer doing little besides sunning ourselves on the islands' beaches or the hotels' pools while sleeping, reading, or playing card games and rummikub. Whenever we were on the islands, water activities and sightseeing were always second to what we knew how to do best: idling. With numerous trips in 20+ years, we have acquired some knowledge of the islands, although perhaps not as much as other travellers have. The following tips are gleaned from those trips. We hope you will find them useful, but in case you don't, we have a fallback plan: we can always teach you how to play rummikub! :) |
