Local Customs: Smoking Or Non-Smoking, It Remains To Be Seen

Munich Hauptbahnhof is supposed to be a smoke-free station. This statement is proclaimed loudly from several oversize posters hanging prominently on the walls on both levels of the station. However, opposite from the non-smoking poster on the ground level is another poster, equally large and on an equally prominent location, welcoming all to Marlboro Country.
In addition, the smokers could be seen everywhere in the station when we were there between Christmas and New Year two weeks ago. The merchants stood inside and outside of their kiosks enjoying their cigarettes, the teenagers bumped a smoke and a light from passers-by then blew white smoke rings into the cold air. Groups and individuals, the smokers smoked and the non-smokers breathed in the smoke. No one cared and no one complained, no one followed the rule and no one enforced it.

flyingscot4 Wed Feb 7, 2007 03:00 UTC I read all these tips about the Hofbräuhaus being so touristy. I have been going there for forty years and my opinion is the same as yours. I have written about it in VT from a different angle than yours but our conclusions are the same. Thanks. | jayhawk2000 Wed Jun 21, 2006 19:34 UTC Isn't the food & shopping at the Hbf amazing? And a real godsend on a Sunday when everything else shuts! | iwys Tue Mar 29, 2005 16:53 UTC Great tips again. |
