Restaurant Name: Hausbrauerei Altstadthof
Every time I am in Nürnberg, I visit Altstadthof. It’s a small pub located about 50 meters from the Albrecht Dürer Haus, in one of the oldest buildings in the city. The pub has been there for a long time; I first visited it in 1986. Management has changed, but the quality of food and beer hasn't.
Their brewery is on the premises (smallest one in the country), where the beer is brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Requirements of 1516. The four types of beer are light (Helles Lager), dark (Schwarz), red (Rothbier), and a very strong Bock. You can buy beer and mugs to take home with you. You also get a soft canvas tote with the pub’s name and logo free with the purchase. If you arrange it ahead of time, you can also take a tour of the brewery and the cellar.
Favorite Dish: What to eat when drinking beer: Krustenbrot (crust bread), Schäufele in Dunkelbiersoße (pickled and smoked pork in dark beer sauce), Specksauerkraut (bacon sauerkraut), and Kartoffelsuppe (potato soup). They're excellent and all freshly prepared.

Enchilada Restaurant Und Mexican Bar: Mexican Food In Germany? ¿Porqué No?

Restaurant Name: Enchilada Restaurant Und Mexican Bar
Enchilada got my vote for a good Mexican restaurant, and I am not saying this lightly. Living almost all my life in Southern California (less than two hours from the border), I have known good Mexican food. Since moving to Europe, I have also known bad Mexican food. Enchilada, luckily, belongs to the former category. The d?cor is authentic, the language is authentic, the food is authentic, and the price is authentic (I strongly believe that there is no correlation between high price and good Mexican food). The only thing that falls a bit short is the very limited selection of authentic Mexican beer. I guess I do expect a bit too much, but that's nothing new; Charles has been telling me that all along. Everything is good and freshly made. I cannot find fault with any of the dishes. The German language menu lists the daily special while the English menu does not mention it at all. Suggestion: use both, that way you can order anything that catches your fancy and you won't spend much either way. A small warning: the homebrew beer is not all it is cracked up to be. It is a blend of Mexican beer plus lime and lemon added-in. The sound of it would make you think of a Corona and lime, does it? Not really. The taste is more lemonade than beer, very light, like a cooler, something one could drink a gallon at a time in the idle hot summer days. I liked the first sip, liked it less with the second sip, and got bored the third time. If it were not because of the extra hot pepper burning my tongue, I would not reach for it the fourth time. Overall, even with my poor choice of beer, I would say it was still a good Mexican place.
