Hostal Bahia: The Last Room In Town
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We had the last room available in all accommodations from three stars down. It was Euskal Jaiak weekend; hence, San Sebastián was packed to the rim.

We stayed two nights in Hostal Bahía, each night in a different room, not because we wished to do so but because every room was already taken.

Hostal Bahía is not a bad hostel at all. Yes, the bathroom is very tiny, but we have seen smaller bathroom in a three-star hotel in Amsterdam. However, Bahía's bathtub and bed must be custom-made because the inner measurement of the bathtub is only 25 inches and the bed barely reaches 6 feet in length. Charles said this bed made him feel very tall because it was the first time his feet hung over a bed while he was lying down.

Bahia is located a few steps from the beach, five minute walk to Centro and ten minutes walk to La Parte Vieja.

The room is equipped with a 17" flat screen TV, an armoire, and a desk. There are thick and good quality bath towels. A breakfast of fresh croissant, bread, muffin, coffee, tea, and fresh-squeezed orange juice is included in the rate, and Wi-Fi is free.

There is no A/C but the room comes with a ceiling fan, which is in fact better for us because we both suffer sinus if sleeping with A/C.

The first night, we stayed in room 117, a small room that faced the street where the noise level is high. The second night, the hotel moved us to room 215, a much larger room that faced the plaza and with a view of Bahia de La Concha. The bathroom in 215 was slightly larger as well, and there was a good size balcony to sit and enjoy the ocean breeze.

As mentioned earlier, we stayed at Bahia during one of the biggest festivals of the year so we had to pay a much higher rate than the normal price. We knew that beforehand but since we chose to be in San Sebastián that weekend, we did not see a cause to complain. The alternatives were paying three times more for a four-star hotel or sleeping on the beach, neither option was particularly appealing to us.
