In all the years of traveling, the best winter trip we made was the one we spent in Bundesland Tirol.
Christmas in Tirol is the epitome of holiday in winter wonderland. There is no better feeling than going to bed at night knowing there will be snow falling on the roof while we sleep, and there will be a few feet of fresh snow waiting for our skis in the morning. There is no better feeling than walking in a restaurant at the end of the day seeing hot stew on the menu. There is no better view than the clear print of our boots on a snow covered path and the tip of the church peeking through a snow-covered village.
The mountains in Tirol are generous with their wide pistes and the snow in Tirol is generous with their powder softness. The tranquility is the bonus that Tirol bestows upon its visitors at any given time of the day except in the touristiest towns. The frozen lakes, the silent forests, the tender valleys, the gentle hills, the quiet villages, the twinkling Christmas lights, everything is calm and everyone is kind, and Mother Nature tucks her white robe over it all for a long winter that is cold only on the surface. |

Great overview of Soll , But I would suggest you move all your tips (except the mexican restaurant in Ellmau) to the Soll page. As for myself I've seen better villages in Tirol than Soll ,but than it holds a special place in my heart. | Jasen71 Sun Jan 15, 2006 20:39 UTC
