Oradea is a beautiful city, situated in the north-west part of Romania (Transylvania), near the Hungarian border. The city is divided in 2 parts by the river: Crisul Repede( Sebes Koros). Here, on this photo you can see the biggest and most important square: "piata Unirii" (the Hungarian name for this square is: Szent Laszlo ter) with the Black Eagle Palace and the Szent Laszlo church. - The main activity of the English Club is our weekly meeting. We meet every Friday from 18PM to 20PM at Ady Endre high school in Oradea. We have a different topic to discuss at every meeting. Since our first meeting from 1990 we have had approximately (50weeks*16 years) 800 meetings. So you can imagine that sometimes we are having difficulties finding a topic that we have never discussed before. Here are some topic examples we have discussed before: " Improving your relationships ", "Expectations", "Indifference", "Moral Values", "Illusions", "How to be loved?", "Jewellery", "Absurd", "Horror", "Curiosity", "Obsessions", "Supernatural", "Surprise". The only rule at the meetings is that you must speak in English.

- Sometimes instead of a topic we play games or we have a debate. Some special meetings are: The Annual meeting (we have this meeting every year, and we talk about the club's issues), the Auction meeting, or the first meeting of each year (when we talk about the previous year and about the year that has just started). Any other ideas for meetings are welcome. After the club we go to a restaurant to drink some beers and eat some pizzas or something else that seems to look good on the menu.

- We have some extra activities as well. We take about 4 to 8 trips a year in the surrounding areas. We organize two kinds of trips: weekend trips and 1 day trips. The weekend trips are much harder to organize because we need a whole bus of people (30 for the big bus and fewer for mini bus). We also have our annual English Club birthday trip(party), which is organized in September. I think this year (2006) the English Club will be 16 years old. Other activities are: going to different cultural events together, playing Ping-Pong, going to see a movie together, chatting on the internet, etc. And we have our most important event in December, the English Club Christmas party (Gala) with the English Club Awards (like the Oscars for the movies). - We are looking for: new places where we can organize trips, new topics or debate ideas, any kind of special meetings ideas, for sponsorship, for a place that could be our own, for cultural events in Oradea, for activities where we can have a good time together, for newcomers to the English Club meetings, etc? Any suggestions or ideas related to the club are welcome.

Stay informed of entertainment and events in Oradea.
It is not necessary to be perfect in English language, you can be also a beginner, everybody is welcome at the English Club.
