Khao San Road as well as the sois radiating from it is a backpacker center. Stay there for cheap rooms, convenient money exchange, easy internet access and overseas call. Grand Palace is in walking distance away. But it's far removed from the city center. The easiest public transportation is to take a ferry boat down Chao Phraya River then change to BTS skytrain. Airport Bus 2 takes you directly from airport to Khao San Rd. Check out the website. You'll get much information

Located in Soi Rambuttri, a quiter road parallelling to Khao San Rd. Of course you won't get a room as beautiful as the pictures on their webpage. But the room is clean and quiet, much better than most guesthouses in this area. Double room with bath, aircon and tv 650B

The second time I was in Khao San Rd., almost all houses were full, as well as Rambuttri Village Inn and a neighbor new guesthouse in Soi Rambuttri. I walked the road further and found this guesthouse. 200B for a double room with fan and share bath. For me it's just somewhere for a bed while some guests were enjoying lying on mattresses and watching movies in the big lounge.

A very good deal in downtown area. 450B with aircon, bath and tv. Near MRT station and Suan-Lum Night Bazaar. To get there from airport, take AB1 and alight at Lumphini Park then a taxi ride costs you around 45B. They also have a newly opened house in Pin Klao. I learned this guesthouse from a monthly brochure I got from TAT. Finally I found it's the owner of Charlie House who published it.
