One of the must jaw dropping places in all of Paris is this basilica. Unfortanenly it is in a very seedy location, the train stops a block away, and for the most part if you head straight to the basilica you should be OK. Well why is this place so special ???...First it is the where the patron Saint of Paris is buried comes the name Saint-Denis. Legend has it back in the year 250 Saint-Denis head was chopped of by The Romans and Saint-Denis picked up his head and walked about a mile before collapsing on the present day site of the basilica. And the second reason to come here is this is where all the FRENCH KINGS are buried except for Louis XXVIII (he's buried in present day Belgium) Amazing, Jawdropping, spectacular.....worth the trip, worth the time, worth the effort !!!!! MUST SEE....admission to the crypt is 6.50 Euro and the hand held tour is 5 Euro....the hand held tour is very detailed and well worth the money...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED....give yourself about 2 hours here.

New York has 5th Ave, Buenos Aires has the avienda 9th of July, London has Oxford st. but there is no comparisson to the Champs Elysees in Paris.....both during the day and at night the avenue is magical. Lined with high end stores, cafes, 5 star hotels, night spots, It is the place to be in Paris. The prices are double of course but what is more European then having a bottle of wine on a side walk cafe seeing humanity walk by....just ask Vincent Van Gogh !!!!!!!

If you have the time and energy make your way up to top(there is 247 steps) and you'll be grasping for air once you get to the top where there is a very intresting muesuem showing the history of the Arc (it is currently under renovation) and of course a lovely view of Paris !!!! 9 Euro's to go up....well worth the effort......you can opt for the elevator to come down. If you are elderly or handicapped you are allowed to get to the top via the elevator....that's the only way up the easy way...if not hit the stairs. Give your self about an hour......HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT !!!!!

I have traveled the world 10 times over and I have never had anything stolen from me, but of course there is a aways a first, and on the observation deck of the Eiffel tower an expert pickpocket was able to take $100 bill from me with my hands in my front pocket and my hands on my money. Of course I won't let that spoil my fun, but I said to myself if the pickpocket is that good, then heck he deserves to keep my $100 bill !!!!! The view is awesome from the top, but the line to go up in usually a 2 hour wait and then it's crowded and hot....better from the bottom !!!!

Well, I ran into this area as I was looking for the train stop, and I am soooo happy I did....I had not spoken to anyone who had mentioned the Latin Quater to me, so I'm glad I found it.....This is probably the cheapest and best meals you will have in all of Paris.....the narrow streets are lined with all types of restaurants offering every type of food your looking for...pastries, cheese stores, all foods.......Spend having lunch here !!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IT !!!!!! and for those who fear the language barrier....most of the places have english menu's !!!!!

Besides St.Peter's cathedral in Rome, this is probably the most beautiful cathedral in the world.....Give yourself time to explore the various sites within the cathedral, but the walk up to the tower bells aren't worth it !!!! n Again watch out for pickpockets

A must do for a first timer in Paris, is to take a boat ride on one of the most beautiful rivers in the world, The river Seine. Most boat operators are either in front of the Effiel Tower or in enclave next to Norte Dame Catherdal. They are numberous with various prices and length's of tour. We took a ride with a company called Bateaux Parisiens. And we were so glad we did, the tour lasted about an hour and a half, but the best part was the wonderful comementary by the guide, He spoke FRENCH, ENGLISH, SPANISH, and GERMAN, and as we went by various sites on the river he would explain it in each of those languages, and He spoken them fluent and perfect, just that right there was deserving of a small tip. The cost of the tour was 11 Euro per person and they run about 10 tours all thru the day. WELL WORTH IT, HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT !!!!!!

Roadquill Tue Nov 29, 2005 08:05 UTC Funny tip about the "French Breakfast" at many of the hotels. When you can spend 5 euro for the same thing at one of the many coffee shops. | aussiedoug Thu Feb 24, 2005 23:44 UTC Votre tips sont fantastique. You'd better drop by Sydney page & check my $20 Aussie Brekkie Restaurant tip with the 2 die 4 views of the Harbour, Bridge & Opera House. As much as I love Paris it doesn't have those (not with a decent feed at the same time). | davequ Wed Feb 9, 2005 19:23 UTC Bonjour to a fellow member of the Tour d'Argent club.
