You cant be wrong by visiting Sicily. Great food, lovely beaches, amazing archeological site, dazzling churches, and a bit of every history period of the Mediterranean. This island is the perfect destination... but beware of the very crowded (August) and beastly hot (July/August) months! |

You could easily spend two weeks in Sicily and still feel like you barely scratched the surface of this wonderful island. I myself had only one week to spend there and I concentrated on the western side of the island and felt like I should be coming back as soon as I could. In fact, I plan returning to Sicily next year. Even if most of the travelguides will tell you that the Eastern (Taormina, Etna, Syracuse, etc) part of Sicily is the best, I found my trip between Erice, Palermo, Agrigento and Cefalu to be quite spectacular.. |
It's not the Sicily of the Corleones and it's not the post-war poverty-stricken island somes have been depicting. Sicily is now modern, with a very friendly population and all you can expect from a major tourist destination (unfortunately, this is a two-edged sword in some places, but it isnt that bad....). |
