Orient House Antiques: I've got to have that knocker!

  • Name of Shop: Orient House Antiques

Shopping is normally the least of my priorities when traveling - especially on this weekend trip since I only brought along a small backpack. But when I visited Orient House Antiques and saw the clenched fist knockers (from old homes mainly in the Al Jdeida area), I've never been more resolved: never mind how heavy it was, I got to have one! So there, I haggled and finally got what I wanted, a 130-year-or-so relic from Al Jdeida's glorious past at 2,500 Syrian pounds (about 50 US dollars). Before parting with my cash, I made sure I won't have any problems with airport authorities. Orient House Antiques also sells other interesting stuff, and the staff are quite honest about the authenticity of their wares (reproductions vs. originals).

Now, if I can only find a place to install my most-cherished find...
