I am a 39 years old man living in Rovaniemi. I am interested in nature. I also like to watch northern lights. Because I live very close to arctic circle I see a lot of them in winter. I just have to go for a walk in a clear and cold winter night far from city lights. I also like our light summer nights. The picture of me was taken near my childhood home in a sunny summer night. (June 18th, 2004 at 11 pm)
I am planning to add more pictures to my VT-site, when I have some time.

Somewhere in the distance is my childhood home

I was born in Posio in south-eastern Lapland. My parents still live along this road about 40 km south of arctic circle. Most people would say I am from middle of nowhere. ;-) This picture was taken in June 20th 2004 at 01.30 am. So it was night, but I still could see the sun in the northern sky between the clouds. This view is to north-east.

My home lake in a sunny summer night

This is my home lake Mourujarvi with many happy memories. My childhood home is about 200 meters from this place. Here I have been skiing, skating, ice fishing, watching auroras, bird watchig, rowing a boat etc. In summer we used to swim a lot and once I even did swim to that island. (btw previously dead animals were buried there and that's why it is called Ruumissaari = "island of cadavers") To me this is a very special place. M

Neighbouring house

I lived in a small village with about 200 people. Small farms and fields are by the lake and surrounded by the forest. The hay collected from these fields will be given in winter either to cows or reindeers. That small yellow building is a sauna.

Sandy beach nearby

The lakeshore is very rocky, but there is a small sandy beach. In summer it is nice to swim here. Due to mosquitos this is not suitable for sunbathing. ;-)

Rovaniemi seen from north over E-75 highway

I have been living in Rovaniemi (about 50000 inhabitants) for quite many years. The town looks modern as it was complitely destroyed in the World War II. As we know modern doesn´t always mean the same as beautiful so in some parts the town center looks a bit dull. This road is E-75 highway (btw the motorway part is very short ;-) ) and in summer a lot of foreign tourists drive via Rovaniemi on their way to (or from) North Cape (Nordkapp) in northern Norway. Most of them are passers-by so winter is the main season for local tourism. It is always nice to see all those visitors in town and on roads. :-)
