Good location, wear earmuffs and other New York City, NY Hotel/Accommodation Reviews

I stayed at the Edison when I visited New York City when I was a University student, so at the time I was not too picky on my surroundings and how I slept. In hind sight, the place was kinda crappy. The hotel room was ok, and the location is great, but the nightclub in the basement, even thought I was many floors up, kept me up all night long. Which was ok, since I did plan on getting as little sleep as possible in New York City....who the hell wants to sleep when there's soooooo much to do!!!

Unique Qualities: Great Location in a relatively safe neighbourhood close to all the action.

The hotel is located a few blocks away from the UN and the 50th and Lexington Subway Station (E, 6, and some other lines). The hotel has nice rooms and somewhat comfortable beds. Washrooms are nice and there is hot water every morning (hey, in NYC, that is not always the case). No loud weird heaters in the rooms either.

A few drawbacks are the seemingly constant random morning fire alarms. I was here for 2 weeks and my cow-orker and I were woken on several occasions. No fire. No explanation. Geeze, how drunk was I? The club on the grond level can be heard all the way up to the 11th floor till 2am on party nights.

The restaurants in the hotel, one chinesse, and one wanna-be dinner/rip-off are OK. Instead of a $5 USD wonton soup go a couple blocks down to 37th to the Oriental Noodle house and get a kick ass soup for less. Raffles, the dinner on ground floor, charged $9 USD for eggs and bacon that sucked. It seems to be a place that wants to look Upper East Side bling and charge for it but yet still gives crap food and service.

Unique Qualities: Bed's are adjustable for firmness. Remote control makes ordering porn really easy.... even when all you wanted to do was turn the damn TV off... grrr. Room prices was soooo variable and weird.
