Turkestan

Yay for the Silk Road
I was staying in Almaty for the summer. One weekend some friends and I took the train down to Shymkent and then a private bus to Turkestan. It's a cool little town, with a nice hotel newly-built by the Turks right next to the mosque. The mosque is the main attraction, but the bazaar is nice too. Sadly, I was only there for 1 1/2 days, so I didn't get to see too much of the town. The trip was worth it, and the 600+ year-old mosque here is one of Kazakhstan's most beloved treasures.
