Salt Lake City to Yosemite via Ely We didn't leave Salt Lake City till 5.30 pm, and had no idea what the road was like to Ely ... 250 miles away. We did it in under 4 hours ... we must have been the only ones driving on the 93 to Ely that Friday night. We stayed at the Jailhouse Hotel but ate in the Nevada. Our night's rest disturbed at 3.30 am by some nerd revving up his Harley for 20 minutes on the hotel car park. Still we were up and away by 7.00 on the road west to California ... like the title said ... just passin' thru ... |

Its a long way to the State line .... 250 miles Once we were out of Ely we had the road to ourselves and hardly saw another vehicle for the next 170 miles till we reached Tonopah. Just straight roads, deserts and mountains. Stocked up with goodies (water, fruit, sandwiches, and good old Gatorade) at Scolaris foodstore (we even got club discount). Then all the way to the State line and hwy 120 into Yosemite. The caption on the photo should read "Goodbye Nevada .. this road runs straight for 40 miles back to Warm Springs." |
