The republic of Malta situated just south of Sicilia, only consists of three small inhabited islands, and a couple of barren rocks. In a worldmap this small country becomes virtually invisible, but size and quality is two different things. Malta hides a true paradise for those interested in history. Here you will find beautifully preserved remnants from all historical periods of the last 6000 years or so. The population are friendly and the living comunity are an attraction in itself. I can mention the old buses and cars, the fishingboats, the catholic services and festivals and the craft. I have spendt only two weeks plus some transitdays in this country, but i planned well before i went there and got to see all the major sights pluss many minor. You have to travel hard to make it in sutch short time, but when i travel, it is full speed from the first to the very last moment. After a long holiday, i really need holiday.
The main island is so small that it make little sence to move to a new hotel from that point of wiew, it is just as good to stick to one hotel. Traveling from one end of the island to another takes little time and is dirt cheap. You can cross the island for a dollar, depending on the exchange rates, even a little less. That may change after Malta have joined EU.

The Mainisland, Malta, houses the bulk of the population. Mutch of the area are cities and villages with unclear boundaries, at least for outsiders. But there is also some small and tranquil villages and some farmland. Mdina, forexample, are flanked by fields of grain. Numbr two in size are Gozo, og Ghawdez ( pronounced Ahwdesh). This is the nations countryside and grannary. In between those to lies little Comino, home to crusaderinnstalations and a pigfarm.

The islands are made up of limestone, and parts of the coastline are vertical cliffs creating dramatic views. It is a lot of caves, holes and crevices, especialy under water. Diving are increasingly popular. On land there isnt mutch annimallife to be found, itýs little more than a vide variety of lizzards ranging in colour from chocolatebrown to green. The gems are mostly under water in the form of colourfull fishes.
