The smell of lemongrass lingers in the air. After a long day of flying from Northern Thailand to Phuket, we arrive at our hotel. Transported by boat to our room, the light is a comforting sign that we have arrived at our destination. I am tired but the beach calls to me. I down a Singa and head for the ocean. The beach is less than calming. I look out into the waters, so calm and serene and imagine that if the sea should turn feral, engulfing everything in its path....what would i do? One can't live in fear, but there is a collective unconsciousness here that scars this place as dangerous. I drink some lemongrass tea, more Singa, and I read a book and try and relax. After a while I stepped into that ocean.....lured by an elephant of all things....playful, relaxed, and I enjoyed myself. Lemongrass and Elephants.......and the strength of the people that have rebuilt. |
