Hakone is the major city inthe Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park centered at beautiful Lake Ashinoko and is one of the most popular tourist sites in Japan with estimates of up to 20 million visitors per year. The area is most famous for its hot springs and also views of Mt. Fuji (on clear days, which apparently aren't that frequent). The area is easily accessed by train from Tokyo altho for many the easiest way to see all the attractions is on a guided bus tour which will include a lake cruise and a cable car ride. These run about US$125. For individual travellers, passes are for sale allowing access to the sites and all the intermediate transportations. Overnight tours are also readily available on the internet and from Tokyo hotels and tourist agencies.
