"The Piazza dei Miracoli" Pisa by nicolaitan

Pisa Travel Guide: 1,384 reviews and 3,892 photos

The Cathedral, Campanile, and Baptistery in the Piazza dei Miracoli comprise one of the most famous groupings of buildings in the world. Easily reached and located on the northern end of Pisa, the plaza is one of the most visited touristic sites in the world. The city was a major maritime power in the 9th to 11 centuries but was defeated by Genoa in 1284 and came under the control of Florence in 1406 into the 16th Century before reestablishing independence. It united with the remainder of the italian states in the 19th Century.

For me, one of the most remarkable things about this site are the lush green (well-fenced) lawns which make these structures appear all the more striking.

These 3 sites in such proximity comprise a remarkable trilogy. I'm not hearing rampant echoes of commercialism although it must exist to some degree in such a popular site.

I had to Google "nekulturny" to find out what it meant. All that grass and nobody walking on it! So Pisa Tower is stabilized. So now you walk under the lean without worrying?
