The Summer Palace This village has been the site of a royal palace since the early 17th Century but fell into disuse and disrepair for a prolonged period. The present structures were built in the reign of King Rama V between 1872 and 1899. This king was knowledgeable in Western affairs and customs and many of the buildings reflect this, including the often neglected topiary. The summer palace is used to this day for some receptions and banquets as well as an occasional period of residence by the current king. |
