"The Violet Village" Tourette-sur-Loup by nicolaitan

The Perfect Medieval Village

Approximately 20 miles from both Cannes and Nice, this charming village is directly on the Grasse - Vence highway. Violets grow everywhere, honored each year in March by a violet festival floats and a "flower battle". There are no hotels as such, although many villas in the area are available for rental. For parking, there is a large carpark right south of the main road but no parking in the village. The population approximates 4000 but the number of visitors is much less than many other hill villages because of less access - see Gourdon page. At only 4 km from Vence it is an easy and enjoyable outing. Note that the original spelling included an "S" for Tourette as in the signpost above.

The Village as Seen from the Grasse approach

There must be no more incredible vista that Tourette-sur-Loup from this perspective. Breathtaking, better than any picture.

The Village as seen from the Vence approach

Also far prettier than any photograph.

These small villages are special, it is as though they are the most peacefull and beautiful places in the world. Hope to visit this section of France some day.

Hello Lew, thanks for posting VT's first (but no longer only) page on Tourrettes (double r, double t and an s at the end) on the Wolf. That is indeed a spectacular view from the Grasse approach.

This wonderful town has so much charm. Thanks for sharing. You made me giggle about Roscoe. Some would say that about Trona, when they see it in person. Yet, it has some redeeming features that are hidden. Maybe Roscoe has some:)

Thanks for your kind words. It's a lovely village. Our hotel clerk told us about it . . . thank goodness! Hopefully now there will be more pages on Tourette (Tourrettes).
